It’s hard in today’s pop radio world to find substance. Current radio “hits” while they may be fun to dance to, lack the passionate melodies and meaningful lyrics that once captivated listeners.
Not every band in the genre falls into this category. Maybe Not Even, an indie pop rock band from Annapolis Maryland has proven they are able to captivate, and entertain.
For example, in the featured song “Somebody Else”, Singer Jeff K sings about a girl who was dealt a difficult hand in life. Growing up as an orphan and then falling into a life of drugs and crime. She lives in a fantasy world where she is constantly dreaming that she was someone else and she convinces herself that if she was, then she wouldn’t have the problems that she has. The end message; however, is that we can’t change our lives or fix our problems just by sitting down and fantasizing about change. We have to take action and make a change in our lives before we will start seeing results.
Jeff’s lyrics are not the only thing that makes “Somebody Else” worth a listen. Guitarist D.J. Rocco fills the track will beautiful blues influenced licks. Picking in and out of Jeff K’s vocals, Rocco climaxes the song with prodigious lead comparable to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
“Somebody Else” is available on the band’s debut album “It Could Happen”. The album is available at Best Buy, online at Itunes and Amazon, and at their label’s Official Store.
